İngilizce Dersleri: Mısır’da ordu Mursi’yi devirdi

İngilizce öğrenmek! Türklere online dersler…

Welcome to another post in our İngilizce Dersleri series. These posts are focused around video lessons that we have prepared using recent news articles. We usually focus on current events that are of high relevance to our Turkish students learning English. This week we have picked a recent article about the overthrown president of Egypt, Morsi. This article is of regional relevance to Turkey, and we hope you enjoy it!

This article is intended for our more advanced students as it contains some challenging political vocabulary. We intentionally do not read the entire article and have simplified some of the text.

As always, feel free to take your time in viewing the article. These İngilizce Dersleri lessons are designed to be watched once through, then paused wherever you are finding the vocabulary challenging. Feel free to supplement the article with an online dictionary to review any vocabulary that we do not highlight. You can find the complete library of lessons in our Ingilizce Dersleri section!

İngilizce Dersleri: article synopsis

This article was originally published on the BBC news service July 4th, 2013. You can find a copy of the original article here.  Turkish speakers may also like to look at the BBC article, Mısır’da ordu Mursi’yi devirdi, which provides context to this video.

The Egyptian army recently removed Morsi from power. Mr Morsi is in detention, as well as senior figures in the Islamist group of which he is a member. Hundreds more are being sought. The top judge of Egypt’s constitutional court, Adly Mahmud Mansour, has been sworn in as interim leader. He has pledged to hold elections based on “the genuine people’s will”. At a news conference, Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Gehad el-Haddad declared “our full refusal and revoking of the military coup” and demanded Mr Morsi’s immediate release, along with the other detainees.

Let us know your own thoughts on the article either in Turkish or English!
